Raphael House - Moving Families from Crisis to Community

Inside Raphael House

Families thrive at Raphael House because we are an orderly, attractive, working household. Predictability and patterns help young children feel secure, and everything at Raphael House is comfortably predictable - children do homework when they return from school; play on our rooftop garden; dinner is always promptly at six; and children's art activities always precede bedtime. And so it goes, throughout the day. Parents are pleasantly surprised as their children begin to warm to a safe, interesting environment with other children.

6:30am - 7:00am

Birthday CelebrationDinner
Every night a nutritious and warm meal is served to our families. It is a time for families to talk about their day and a time to bond. This is also a great time to celebrate a birthday or a special day with a delicious cake and even gifts!

Dish TeamDish Team
At Raphael House there is no cleaning crew; there are no maids and no additonal paid staff hired for the sole purpose of cleaning. We believe that this is our home and we care for it accordingly. Soon after dinner, parents and staff alike work together to clean our dining rooms, wash dishes and tidy the kitchen.

Children's Art
Evening Activity
Children will be divided into age appropriate groups to complete art activities, various plays and engaging experiences with other children. Walk down the halls of Raphael House any day of the year and you will see masterpieces created during this time. One day a week families gather together to complete a group art activity.
7:15pm-7:45pm
Story Time
Story Time
After the children put on their p.j.'s and brush their teeth, they return to the Children's Garden and sit around our storyteller. Every night, a different tale of dragons, princesses, heroes and heroines is told.

8:00pm
Bed Time
Bed TimeAfter story time, the children are led to bed to the sweet sounds of our Angel Song.  The storyteller, our own version of the Pied Piper, leads this charming procession carrying the Angel Candle.  Each sleepy child is delivered to his or her bedroom.  It is one of the many special traditions enacted night after night at Raphael House.

In addition to breakfast and dinner, we provide a "lunch cart" to our residents. During this time, parents prepare their own as well as their children's lunches for the following day. This is also a time to complete daily chores along with staff, prepare for the next day and to relax.
10:00pm
Lights out
Residents retire to their individual bedrooms for a night of rest in preparation for the next day.
